Uses

Neostigmine is used in the treatment of myasthenia gravis, paralytic ileus, post-operative urinary retention, and for reversing the effects of skeletal muscle relaxants after surgery.

How it Works

How Neostigmine Works Neostigmine is a reversible cholinesterase inhibitor that increases the level of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger in the brain, by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. This increase in acetylcholine activates muscle contraction receptors, facilitating muscle contraction.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Neostigmine include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive salivation, increased sweating, and stomach cramps.
