How Actofenal Gel works Actofenal Gel 4X is a combination of six medicines: Mephenesin, Diclofenac, Lidocaine, Methyl Salicylate, Linseed Oil and Menthol which relieve pain. Mephenesin is a muscle relaxant. It works on the centres in the brain and spinal cord to relieve muscle stiffness or spasm and to improve pain and movement of muscles. Diclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) which blocks the release of certain chemical messengers in the brain that cause pain and inflammation (redness and swelling). Lidocaine is a local anesthetic which works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to brain to further decrease the pain sensation. Methyl Salicylate and Menthol are topical analgesics (pain relievers). They work by first cooling the skin then warming it up. This cooling and warming up action interferes with the pain signal transmission through nerves. Linseed Oil decreases swelling through its anti-inflammatory properties.

Do not use Actofenal Gel 4X on large areas of skin or near sensitive areas such as private parts or on broken or injured skin. Avoid applying right after bathing or shaving. Using this medication on freshly shaved skin areas can cause severe skin irritation. Consult your doctor if you get excessive skin irritation or other unwanted effects.
