Nezol Eye Drop

Nezol Eye Drop is an eye drop containing Camphor (Cinnamomum camphora), Menthol, Naphazoline, and Phenylephrine.

Naphazoline and phenylephrine act on alpha-adrenergic receptors in the conjunctival blood vessels. This causes the vessels to narrow, which helps reduce redness and the bloodshot appearance of the eye. Camphor and menthol act as mild sensory agents on the eye surface and produce a cooling sensation that may help relieve mild burning, itching, or discomfort.

It is used for short-term relief of eye redness and irritation caused by non-infectious triggers such as dust, smoke, wind, pollen, or eye strain. It does not treat underlying infections or chronic eye diseases and is intended for short-term use only.

After instillation, some people may experience brief stinging, mild burning, or temporary blurred vision. If the medicine is used too often or for longer than advised, the redness in the eye can return and may even become more noticeable after the effect wears off (rebound conjunctival hyperemia). It should always be used for the duration recommended by a doctor.

• Severe allergic reaction (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or eyelids; intense rash or hives; difficulty breathing).

• It’s important to consult your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms while taking Nezol Eye Drop.

• Wash your hands thoroughly before using the drops.

• Tilt your head back and gently pull down your lower eyelid to make a small pocket.

• Hold the dropper above the eye and squeeze out one drop into the pocket. Do not touch the dropper tip to the eye or any surface.

• Close your eye gently and press your finger against the corner of your eye (near the nose) for 1–2 minutes. This helps the medicine stay in the eye and reduces absorption into the body.

• Wipe away any excess liquid with a clean tissue.

• Replace the cap tightly after use. If you are using other eye drops, wait at least 5–10 minutes between medicines.

Nezol Eye Drop contain four active ingredients: naphazoline, phenylephrine, camphor, and menthol. Each plays a different role in helping relieve eye redness, irritation, and discomfort.

• Naphazoline and Phenylephrine are sympathomimetic agents that act on alpha‑adrenergic receptors in the smooth muscle of conjunctival arterioles. Their stimulation produces vasoconstriction, reducing blood flow in superficial ocular vessels. This leads to a visible decrease in redness and congestion, providing relief in allergic or irritative conjunctivitis.

• Camphor and Menthol act as counter‑irritants on corneal and conjunctival sensory nerve endings. By stimulating cold receptors (such as TRPM8), they produce a local cooling sensation. This effect helps distract from unpleasant symptoms such as itching, burning, or warmth, while also modulating reflex tearing.

• Do not use these drops for longer than 3 to 5 consecutive days unless explicitly directed by your doctor, as prolonged use can cause worsening rebound eye redness.

• Avoid wearing contact lenses while using the drops. The solution may contain preservatives that can discolor soft lenses and increase irritation. Wait at least 15 minutes after instillation before reinserting lenses.

• Do not share your eye drops with anyone else to avoid spreading potential infections or contaminating the solution.

• Throw away the bottle 30 days after first opening, or as directed by the manufacturer, even if there is liquid left inside.

• Store the eye drops in a cool, dry place at room temperature (ideally below 25°C), away from direct sunlight and heat. Do not freeze.

• Do not use the drops beyond the expiry date or for longer than the period recommended after opening, as eye preparations can become contaminated over time.

• Keep it securely out of the reach and sight of children.

• General Diet (Safe): No specific foods or beverages are known to interact with these eye drops due to their highly localized therapeutic action on the surface of the eye.

• Other Eye Medications (Caution): Wait at least 5–10 minutes between different drops to ensure Nezol Eye Drop is not flushed off the eye surface.

• MAO Inhibitors (Caution): If you take or have taken Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs like phenelzine) within the past 14 days, systemic absorption of decongestants could theoretically cause a sharp rise in blood pressure.

• Tricyclic Antidepressants (Caution): Medicines such as amitriptyline may theoretically increase the vascular response of vasoconstrictors if systemic drainage occurs.

• Narrow-Angle Glaucoma (Unsafe): Do not use if you have uncorrected narrow-angle glaucoma or a very shallow anterior eye chamber. Mild pupil dilation can block fluid drainage and cause a dangerous spike in eye pressure.

• Severe Hypertension or Heart Disease (Caution): While systemic absorption is low, the vasoconstrictor components can rarely affect blood pressure or heart rate; use with caution if you have uncontrolled hypertension or advanced coronary disease.

• Hyperthyroidism (Caution): Patients with an overactive thyroid may be more sensitive to the cardiovascular effects of alpha-adrenergic stimulants and require careful monitoring.

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one.

Do not use extra drops to make up for a missed dose.
