More About Limcee 100/5/450mg Zinc Orange Flavour Chewable Tablet 15s

Detailed Description

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a water-soluble vitamin that the human body cannot synthesise and must obtain from the diet. It is required for the synthesis of collagen (the structural protein of skin, blood vessels, bone, and connective tissue), neurotransmitter formation, carnitine production, and iron absorption from plant foods. Vitamin C also acts as a potent antioxidant, neutralising reactive oxygen species generated by metabolism, infection, and environmental stress.

Sodium ascorbate is the sodium salt of ascorbic acid. It carries the same vitamin C activity but is less acidic, which makes it gentler on the stomach for people who experience acidity with plain vitamin C. Buffered formulations are particularly useful at higher daily intakes. Zinc is an essential trace mineral involved in various enzymatic reactions, including DNA synthesis, cell division, protein synthesis, and immune cell function. It is essential for normal taste, smell, and wound healing. Limcee 100/5/450mg Zinc Orange Flavour Chewable Tablet 15s contains the combination of vitamin C (in two forms) and zinc, which supports immune function and tissue repair through complementary mechanisms.

Uses of Limcee 100/5/450mg Zinc Orange Flavour Chewable Tablet 15s

  • To support immune function during periods of higher demand.
  • To support wound healing and recovery after illness, infection, or surgery, as advised.
  • To meet increased nutritional requirements during convalescence.
  • As a daily nutritional supplement for general antioxidant support.

  • Supports immune cell function and antioxidant defences.
  • Supports collagen synthesis, contributing to skin, blood vessel, and connective tissue health.
  • Zinc supports wound healing, normal taste and smell, and immune integrity.
  • Generally well tolerated with a long track record of use.

Side Effects of Limcee 100/5/450mg Zinc Orange Flavour Chewable Tablet 15s

Common
  • Mild stomach upset, nausea, or heartburn (more common with plain ascorbic acid; less common with sodium ascorbate)
  • Diarrhoea with high doses
  • Metallic taste from zinc
Uncommon
  • Headache
  • Flushing
  • Loss of appetite
Serious side effects requiring immediate attention
  • Kidney stones with very high doses of vitamin C in susceptible individuals
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Symptoms of zinc-induced copper deficiency with prolonged high-dose zinc (anaemia, neurological symptoms)
  • Fluid retention or blood pressure concerns in those on sodium-restricted diets (due to the sodium content of sodium ascorbate at high doses)

Directions for Use

Take Limcee 100/5/450mg Zinc Orange Flavour Chewable Tablet 15s orally with or just after a meal, with a glass of water, as it improves absorption and reduces gastric upset. You should not exceed the recommended dose unless told by your doctor. Single high doses of vitamin C are less efficiently absorbed than smaller divided doses. If your total daily intake is high, splitting it across the day is more effective. Maintain hydration and combine with a balanced diet.

How it works

Vitamin C (whether supplied as ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate) is absorbed in the small intestine, mainly through sodium-dependent vitamin C transporters. Once in the body, it acts as a cofactor for the enzymes that attach hydroxyl groups to proline and lysine in newly formed collagen strands. This is a chemical step that allows the strands to lock into the tight triple helix that gives collagen its strength. Without enough vitamin C, this step fails, and collagen is built weakly, which is why deficiency causes the fragile blood vessels, bleeding gums, and poor wound healing seen in scurvy.

Vitamin C also supports the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine, helps regenerate vitamin E, and improves the absorption of non-heme iron from plant foods. As an antioxidant, it donates electrons to neutralise free radicals and is regenerated by other antioxidant systems in the body.

Zinc is absorbed in the small intestine and incorporated into more than 300 enzymes (metalloenzymes) and many transcription factors. It supports DNA synthesis, cell division, and protein synthesis, all of which are critical for rapidly dividing cells, including immune cells and skin cells involved in wound healing. Zinc also supports the structure of immune cells, the activity of natural killer cells, and antibody production.

Once consumed, sodium ascorbate works exactly like regular vitamin C; the sodium simply separates off, leaving the active vitamin C (ascorbate) behind. The advantage is that sodium ascorbate is less acidic, so it is gentler on the stomach than plain ascorbic acid.

Drug-Food Interaction

  • Iron-rich foods (BENEFICIAL): Vitamin C enhances non-heme iron absorption.
  • Coffee/tea (CAUTION): Tannins may reduce zinc absorption; separate by 1 hour.
  • High-phytate foods (CAUTION): May reduce zinc absorption.
  • Sodium-restricted diet (CAUTION): Sodium ascorbate adds to total sodium intake at high doses.

Interactions with Other Drugs

  • Tetracyclines and fluoroquinolones (SEVERE): Zinc binds these antibiotics and reduces their absorption. Separate both these medicines by 2 to 4 hours.
  • Penicillamine (SEVERE): Zinc reduces absorption. Separate both doses by several hours.
  • Levothyroxine (CAUTION): Zinc may interfere with absorption. Separate by at least 4 hours.
  • Iron supplements (CAUTION): Zinc and iron compete for absorption. Separate by 2 hours, though vitamin C in the same product helps iron absorption.
  • Warfarin (CAUTION): Very high doses of vitamin C have been reported to affect anticoagulation in case reports.
  • Aspirin and other NSAIDs (CAUTION): May increase urinary excretion of vitamin C with chronic use.
  • Aluminium-containing antacids (CAUTION): Vitamin C may increase aluminium absorption.

Drug-Disease Interactions

  • History of calcium oxalate kidney stones (CAUTION): High-dose vitamin C can increase urinary oxalate, increasing the chances of recurrence.
  • Iron overload disorders (CAUTION): Vitamin C enhances iron absorption in disorders like haemochromatosis.
  • Chronic kidney disease (CAUTION): Avoid mega-doses of vitamin C; monitor.
  • Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency (CAUTION): Very high doses of vitamin C have been associated with haemolysis in G6PD-deficient individuals.
  • Wilson's disease (CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR): Zinc supplementation alters copper handling and should be coordinated with treatment.
  • Heart failure or hypertension on sodium restriction (CAUTION): Sodium ascorbate at high doses may increase sodium levels in the body.

Overdose

Overdose of Limcee 100/5/450mg Zinc Orange Flavour Chewable Tablet 15s can cause gastrointestinal distress, which may present as nausea, diarrhoea, and abdominal cramps. Overdosing may also increase the risk of kidney stones with very high vitamin C intake, and copper deficiency with prolonged excessive zinc intake (resulting in anaemia and neurological symptoms). Acute large zinc ingestion can cause vomiting, abdominal pain, and dehydration. Suspected overdose needs medical assessment.
