Proxym Er 200mg Tablet 15s contains S-Etodolac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and the active S-enantiomer of etodolac. It is used to relieve pain, inflammation, and stiffness associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other musculoskeletal disorders, as well as for short-term management of acute pain. It works by reducing the production of prostaglandins, which are responsible for pain and inflammation in the body, and is typically available in oral tablet form.
Proxym Er 200mg Tablet 15s contains S-Etodolac, the active S-enantiomer of etodolac, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to help manage pain and inflammation. It belongs to the acetic acid derivative class of NSAIDs, and is commonly prescribed for conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and other musculoskeletal inflammatory disorders. It may also be used for short-term relief of acute pain when clinically appropriate.
It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes involved in prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins are key mediators of pain, inflammation, and swelling in the body. By reducing their production, Proxym Er 200mg Tablet 15s may help decrease joint pain, stiffness, and swelling, thereby improving mobility and daily functioning in patients with inflammatory conditions.
S-Etodolac represents the pharmacologically active enantiomer of racemic etodolac, with most of the anti-inflammatory and analgesic activity attributed to the S-form. This stereoselective activity has been described in pharmacological literature and supports its therapeutic effect in pain and inflammation management.
Although S-Etodolac shows relative preference for COX-2 over COX-1 at therapeutic doses, it is not a fully selective COX-2 inhibitor. Therefore, gastrointestinal effects such as dyspepsia, ulceration, or bleeding may still occur, especially with prolonged use or in high-risk patients. Caution is also required in individuals with renal impairment, cardiovascular disease, or fluid retention risk. Safe use depends on taking it exactly as prescribed and only under a doctor’s guidance.
Proxym Er 200mg Tablet 15s may be indicated by your doctor for:
Relief of pain, stiffness, and inflammation associated with degenerative joint disease.
Management of joint pain, swelling, and inflammation in autoimmune arthritis.
Prescribed in children for controlling inflammation and improving mobility.
Short‑term treatment of moderate pain, such as post‑surgical pain or musculoskeletal injuries.
May be used to help reduce spinal pain and stiffness as advised by a doctor.
Proxym Er 200mg Tablet 15s may provide benefits such as:
While Proxym Er 200mg Tablet 15s is generally well-tolerated, it can cause side effects in some individuals.
Use Proxym Er 200mg Tablet 15s exactly as directed by your doctor based on the prescribed form.
Proxym Er 200mg Tablet 15s works by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX). This enzyme is responsible for the synthesis of prostaglandins, which are lipid compounds that act as mediators of inflammation, pain, and fever. S-Etodolac specifically shows a higher affinity for COX-2, the enzyme primarily found at sites of inflammation, while having less impact on COX-1, which is involved in protecting the stomach lining. By reducing prostaglandin levels in the joints and tissues, it effectively decreases swelling and desensitises pain receptors.
S‑Etodolac, like other NSAIDs, may pose risks to the fetus, especially in the third trimester. Use only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk.
Small amounts may pass into breast milk; caution is advised when nursing.
May cause dizziness, drowsiness, or visual disturbances. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you.
Use with caution in patients with liver impairment; monitoring of liver function may be required.
NSAIDs can reduce kidney function and may worsen renal impairment. Dose adjustments and close monitoring are essential in patients with kidney disease.
Alcohol increases the risk of stomach irritation, ulcers, and bleeding when combined with NSAIDs. Limit or avoid alcohol use.
An overdose of Proxym Er 200mg Tablet 15s can cause symptoms such as lethargy, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, and epigastric pain. In severe cases, it can lead to high blood pressure, kidney failure, or respiratory depression. If an overdose is suspected, seek emergency medical care immediately.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once to make up for a missed one.
